Many stories begin with a person in the middle of a scene, in the middle of a thought, and from the middle of nowhere. But this story starts from the beginning. The beginning of one girl’s journey for contentment in herself in this world she only saw in an antagonizing manner. It begins on a Monday morning, at precisely 12:00am. When, while she was not yet asleep, she came to the conclusion that she was missing out on the important parts of life. At the same time, she was debating leaving her room to pee and waking up her parents, or trying to sleep on a full bladder. This is one of the many conflicts present in this story. To pee or not to pee.

What are the important things in life, she often asked herself in the coming days. She had figured out that she was missing out on something. She was sure of that. But she wasn’t sure about what exactly she was missing out on, and these are the issues that teenagers have trouble explaining because they don’t have the right words to explain it. This was an issue for her, because she was a teenager. This was also an issue for her friends, who could barely grasp the meaning of ‘contentment’.

She was not a popular girl, and she wasn’t that pretty. She did not find romance before in her life, and she didn’t expect to find it in high school. And she didn’t.  But she was a wishful thinker. She would look at almost any guy and imagine, ‘what if?’ before laughing it off as ridiculous. But sometimes, she imagined these scenarios playing themselves out. She imagined herself and those boys with mutual feelings of contentment with each other. They were obviously in tune with the important things in life.  So the first step to finding romance was to find the important things in life. But she didn’t really want to find romance, she just wanted to find contentment. But she didn’t. So she jumped off a bridge.

Most stories end with something very climactic and heart wrenching. When she jumped off the bridge and died upon impact with the pavement, it was not exciting, nor heart wrenching. She was just a teenage girl who jumped off of a bridge because she was missing out on the important things in life. If anything, I would consider her selfish. She could’ve tried a bit harder, don’t you think?

So, unlike many stories, most of them with plots, this story ends abruptly. The end.
